The second-hand marketplace Users Voice Anger Regarding Sizing Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes without notifying all users about the change.
Online Platforms Reaction
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Updates
Previously, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Member Accounts
A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
