Why the Democratic Party Refuses to Release its 2024 Election Autopsy: An Analysis.

The decision from the DNC to suppress the release regarding its own autopsy report concerning the last presidential race seems shocking but entirely predictable. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the Democrats' governing body behaves more like a publicity machine than an electoral entity focused on building local power for winning elections.

An Environment of Conformity

Reluctant to challenge the prevailing attitude demanding unity, the committee has continued within that legacy throughout this past year. Releasing an official autopsy might have shown whether the leadership are interested to foster honest conversation about the missteps that paved the way for the former president to return to the White House. Yet, the DNC is proceeding under the pretense that there are no lessons to glean from the electoral catastrophe from the last cycle.

The top priority: is this good for winning elections? If not, it becomes a sideline issue from the core mission," a rationale which was presented to justify concealing the document.

Key Issues an Autopsy Would Have Addressed

A genuine analysis worth its salt would not dodge key points of failure. This encompasses:

  • Electoral Disenchantment: Losing of a significant portion of the electorate that backed the party's candidate during the previous election became a critical factor in the close recent race.
  • A Insistence to Seek Re-election: The stubborn choice of a party leader to stay in the race, alongside a very late step-aside, is viewed as denying Democratic voters of a genuine choice.
  • Failing the Working-Class Base: While facing rising costs, the electoral effort allegedly bowing to powerful financial backers while failing to challenge the role of corporate greed.
  • A Gaza Impact: An unwillingness to reconsider a stance concerning the situation in Gaza reportedly led to losing key demographic groups, especially among young people, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • Eroding Young Voter Allegiance: Extensive evidence indicates a major decline in support for the party from the youth electorate.

A Record Shunning Scrutiny

Choosing secrecy aligns with a recurring tendency to avoid difficult realities. This mirrors a situation in which the vast majority of elected Democrat in Congress went along with a sitting president's decision for running for re-election right up until a disastrous campaign event compelled an exit.

Meanwhile, a significant majority within the party's base were continually telling researchers of their opposition to the incumbent to run again.

Financial Issues

A substantive autopsy would also probe questions regarding where money went, including the amounts went to insider consultants and media firms over the course of a campaign which expended an enormous sum during the general election.

The Larger Issue

Ultimately, the secrecy surrounding this report highlights an allegiance to the existing power structure who engineered a disastrous presidential campaign. The signal for rank-and-file members – including countless loyal volunteers – appears to be that they cannot be trusted to know the lessons party chiefs say they discovered based on an analysis compiled from feedback from all states.

A party unwilling to publicly examine where it went wrong will struggle to escape the rut which was so advantageous to their opponents.
